Are you looking to diversify your Spotify playlist? Meet Jessica Andrea, the up-and-coming artist who just released her new single, “Love Like This.”
PureWow recently sat down for an exclusive interview with the 28-year-old singer, who discussed everything from the catchy song to the vibe of her new music. (Think Katy Perry meets Dua Lipa.) Keep reading for all the deets.
That’s right, “Love Like This” is now available on all streaming platforms. Andrea told PureWow that she wrote the song about a mystery man who came into her life at the right time.
“I wrote this song last year when I was not looking for love whatsoever…until I met this person. After we would hang out, I would catch myself staring at the ceiling/wall, thinking about this person 24/7,” she said. “It’s nice to have those butterfly feelings with someone, especially when it’s least expected. I don’t give my heart out to just anyone, so this doesn’t happen often. That’s basically what the song is about.”
Andrea spent the last few years in the studio, writing and recording song after song about her life, relationships and experience with online dating. “My music is a thousand percent based off real and personal experiences. All my songs are true stories and feelings that I’ve been through at some point in my life,” she told PureWow. “I truly think your best work is always when you’re most vulnerable and that’s the only way I know how to be.”
Since Andrea’s goal is to relate to her listeners, she found that some of her best lyrics come from real-life references. “Whenever I’m going through something (especially when it comes to love), I always write sentences or voice memos of how I’m feeling in that exact moment,” Andrea explained. “For example, I went on a date a couple months ago and went to the bathroom to record my emotions on how I was feeling in that moment about the person. Call me crazy, but it helps when it comes to songwriting.”
In addition to “Love Like This,” Andrea is releasing more songs in the near future. When asked to describe her new music, the musician said, “It’s dreamy pop. Every time I make music, I always picture a scene from my favorite rom-com films. I love cinematic feelings.” *Cue the flash mob*
“I’m finally excited for people to hear everything that I’ve been doing,” Andrea continued. “It’s one thing to have it for yourself, but to finally have everyone listen for the first time is exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.”
Andrea is obsessed—we repeat, obsessed—with Coldplay, which is led by front man Chris Martin. While discussing her dream collaboration, she confirmed it’d be the adventure of a lifetime to sing a duet with Martin. (Sorry, had to.)
“I’m going to say this with such high hopes because he is honestly too good for my existence, but I’m going to say it anyways…Chris Martin,” Andrea told PureWow. “The way he can captivate you the moment he starts a song…his lyrics have so much depth, and his voice is angelic to my ears. I’m his biggest fan.”
After JC Chasez heard Andrea sing, he enlisted her for a girl group. Although it didn’t work out, the opportunity opened the door for Andrea to pursue music. “A lot of people don’t know this actually, but JC Chasez from NSYNC discovered me after high school,” she said. “That’s basically how music started for me.”
It may seem like Andrea has kept under the radar for the past two years, but that’s only because she’s been waiting for the right opportunity to introduce her new music. “I’ve been truly living my life to the fullest as cheesy as it sounds,” she said. “I’ve been traveling, experiencing things for the first time, but most importantly focusing on myself and what truly brings light into my life.”
