We Tried the Most Popular Waterproof Mascara on Pinterest And...Wow

Take the sweatiest summer ever, add the premier of Queer Eye season two and you have the perfect environment for testing waterproof mascara. A truly great formula will last through perspiration, tears and beach trips without flaking or smudging in the slightest. So when we heard Pinterest’s most saved one is Lancôme Monsieur Big Waterproof Mascara, we had to put it to the test.

Although it isn’t brand new, Pinterest searches spiked over 300 percent in April, coincidentally right when we started getting antsy for summer. And while it’s a tad pricier than your classic drugstore favorites at $25 a pop, it does have an esteemed rating of 4+ stars on Ulta and Sephora. Needless to say, we got our hands on it stat to see if it really lives up to all the hype.

Here’s how it went. The formula is sweat-proof, smudge-proof, and it glides onto lashes like air, without a single clump or flake in sight. And don’t even get us started on the volume (it’s falsie-level perfection). You won’t need to reapply for post-work plans, but if you did anyway, it would go on just as easily (we tried).

As for the brush, it’s packed with soft, wavy fibers that deliver the perfect amount of product in the first swoop. And it easily brushes through a second layer—important because you always need a second layer. The actual wand is pretty lightweight, too, making it easy to maneuver and reach all those teeny-tiny inner lashes without getting poked in the eye.

One of the big things this Lancôme mascara touts is lasting for up to 24 hours of wear. Summer in New York is definitely sweaty, but we're happy to report this lasted through both morning and evening commutes and quite possibly the sweatiest hot yoga class in the city (we see you, Y7 Studio). If anything, it’s almost a little too tough to remove, even after a full day. But it’s nothing an oil cleanser can’t remedy.

The verdict? Pinterest doesn’t lie—this stuff is good.
