‘This Is Us’ Star Susan Kelechi Watson Gets Real About Filming Her Final Scene

As This Is Us slowly comes to an end *wipes tear away*, numerous cast members have been opening up about their final moments on the show. One of the show’s stars in particular, Susan Kelechi Watson, took a look back on shooting her emotional final scene.

In a recent interview with TODAY, Watson and her castmate, Jon Huertas, talked about filming the final season. Watson plays Beth Pearson on the show and she revealed that filming her final scene was “emotional.”

“We shot a scene and then the camera swung around on me. And, one of our ADs said that this was my last wrap,” she said. “It was emotional. [Also] they asked us to say something for the archive, and it was moving to be able to say how much I appreciated everybody. It was a gift to me to be a part of [the show].”

The 40-year-old actress added the show’s creator, Dan Fogelman, and the writer’s room truly captured the magic of This Is Us. “The authenticity and the love they approached every script, [as well as] the amazing cast I got work with.”

Like Watson, other cast members have been posting special farewell tributes across social media. Just a few weeks ago, Mandy Moore shared a touching goodbye post on Instagram, alongside her co-star (and on-screen love interest) Milo Ventimiglia.

In the photo, both actors are shown sharing a hug during their final day of filming. Moore wrote in the caption, “Finishing the way we started. @miloanthonyventimiglia and I shot the very first scenes of the pilot together and got to finish our last scene of @nbcthisisus side by side.”

“I haven’t begun to process the end of this journey quite yet and I’m sure it will take me time,” Moore continued. “I’m still kicking myself over what I had planned to say to our magnificent crew and then crumbled and forgot out of emotion… but hopefully the gratitude came across.”

Get the tissues ready because the final episode of This Is Us premieres on May 24 on NBC.
