Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Totally Just Pulled a Kate Middleton (and We Have Photos)

A few months after Kate Middleton publicly tried her hand at golf, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, is giving it a shot.

On Wednesday, the 56-year-old royal and her husband, Prince Edward, paid a visit to Scotland and stopped by their Scottish earldom of Forfar. (Queen Elizabeth’s youngest was given the title Earl of Forfar on his 55th birthday in 2019.)

During the event, the countess participated in the country’s national sport. For the occasion, Sophie looked chic in a floral gown, a blazer and heels while her husband donned a Scottish kilt. Lucky for us, Sophie was captured on film practicing her swings. And she was all smiles.

The event reminded us of one of Kate Middleton’s recent engagements when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Cheesy Waffles Project in County Durham. At their outing, the couple participated in a special golf session and took turns teeing off.

Unlike Sophie, it looked like Middleton might need a little more practice because she completely missed the ball on the first attempt. However, it was all in good fun and the couple (as well as the audience) had a great laugh.

Sophie and Edward’s visit is part of a larger royal tour of Scotland, which has included Queen Elizabeth, Prince William and Princess Anne. The royal fam has been celebrating the country’s Royal Week and taking part in engagements celebrating “community, innovation and history” in the country.

Now that we know more than one member of the family has been working on their swing, we’re predicting a little friendly competition in the near future.
