Queen Elizabeth is once again honoring healthcare workers who are on the front line battling against coronavirus.
In honor of World Health Day, which is devoted to global health awareness, Her Majesty issued a statement of gratitude on the Royal Family’s official Instagram account. The slideshow features a video of members of the royal family visiting medical workers, as well as a written statement from the 93-year-old monarch.
“On the occasion of World Health Day, I want to thank all those working in the healthcare profession for your selfless commitment and diligence as you undertake vitally important roles to protect and improve the health and well-being of people across the Commonwealth, and around the world," she wrote. "In testing times, we often observe that the best of the human spirit comes to the fore; the dedication to service of countless nurses, midwives and other health workers, in the these most challenging of circumstances, is an example to us all. My family and I send our enduring appreciation and good wishes," she concluded before signing off, "Elizabeth R."
The statement comes two days after the queen made a special, televised address to the public. And 24 million people tuned in on TV alone to hear her message, according to the BBC.
During the five minute speech, Her Majesty offered viewers reassurance that although times are difficult, better days are on the horizon.
“Together we are tackling this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it,” she said. “We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return. We will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”
