Meghan Markle and Prince Harry managed to keep the early stages of their relationship under the radar. But now, the Duke of Sussex is pulling back the curtain on the lengths they actually went to to conceal their budding romance years ago.
The ex-royal recently paid a visit to Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, where he opened up about the couple’s first few months of dating. (If you didn’t know, the duo met during the summer of 2016 and didn’t publicly announce their relationship until October.) During the chat, he revealed that he and Markle once met at a supermarket for a date. Yes, you read that correctly.
“The first time Meghan and I met up for her to come and stay with me, we met up in a supermarket in London, pretending we didn't know each other. So, we’re texting each other from the other side of the aisles," Harry told Shepard and co-host Monica Padman. “There are people looking at me, giving me all these weird looks, and coming up to me and saying ‘Hi.’ I texted her saying, ‘Is this the right one?’ and she said, ‘No you want parchment paper,’ and I'm like, ‘Where's the parchment paper?’”
Harry also provided details about his ensemble that day and how he tried his best to stay “incognito.” He continued, “It was nice, I had a baseball cap on, looking down at the floor, trying to stay incognito.”
We bet Harry will never forget what parchment paper is.
