It’s no secret women come in many shapes and sizes. And while most companies are still using standard (size 0) mannequins in their stores, Nike has made a big step toward inclusion and introduced plus-size versions in their flagship location in London.
On Wednesday, the activewear retailer unveiled a lineup of curvy mannequins at the new-and-improved location as part of a special floor dedicated just to women's apparel.
According to NikeTown, the third level of the store features “a full range of athlete figures” with “multiple plus-sized and para-sport mannequins” for the first time in the store’s history. In addition to the mannequins, the new women’s floor also offers an expanded collection of plus-size apparel, as well as personal styling services.
Nike isn’t the first brand to display size-inclusive mannequins. Other brands such as Old Navy and Nordstrom have also added them to multiple locations. Back in 2017, Nike also released a women's plus-size line offering sizing from 1X to 3X, with a campaign featuring plus-size model Paloma Elsesser.
"To celebrate the diversity and inclusivity of sport, the space will not just celebrate local elite and grassroot athletes through visual content, but also show Nike plus size and para-sport mannequins for the first time on a retail space," Nike said in a press release according to CNN.
Bravo, Nike.
