Kate Middleton and Prince William's Christmas Card Is Here, and Prince Louis Stuck to Royal Protocol

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Sure, it’s the holidays, but it’s also time for the royals to share their Christmas cards—and we already got everything on our list this year in the form of the adorable snap of Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Kensington Palace shared the Cambridges’ Christmas card Friday morning, and while 5-year-old Prince Georges side leg raise (in mini Hunter rain boots, no less) is certainly impressive, we’re partial to 7-month-old Prince Louis’s adherence to royal protocol. His little navy tights-and-shorts combo follows the royal rule that little kids not wear pants ’til they’re a bit older, probably around age 7 or 8. According to the BBC, the rule began in the 16th century and was made since, back then, pants were considered too suburban for members of the monarchy. While the rule feels a little outdated (Prince George is wearing pants, obvi), the royals have typically still adhered to it for the most part.

We’re also loving that Louis has his tiny little hand wrapped around Kate’s as she holds him, and that 3-year-old Charlotte has already nailed the photogenic "smize" and closed-mouth smile combo, and is the spitting image of Princess Diana. Also, the kids are basically crawling over William, and he’s pretty unfazed. (You’ve got this whole parenting thing down pat, Wills.)

But can we discuss the teepee of sticks in the corner? We’re betting George and Char got a little bored of the setup process for the portrait and wanted to build a fort instead. The pic was taken at their home of Anmer Hall, so it’s basically their private playground.

So, where’s a pencil? We need to take notes for our own family holiday cards…
