Royal Worlds Collide: Kate Middleton Met Queen Elizabeth from ‘The Crown’ Last Night

The key to a good performance is studying the subject you’re portraying, and Olivia Colman, who will play Queen Elizabeth on Netflix’s upcoming season of The Crown, got to come pretty close.

During last night’s BAFTAs (basically the British Oscars), Kate Middleton and Prince William stepped out to celebrate British Film and TV stars. Olivia Colman, who won the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Queen Anne in The Favourite, got up close and personal with her Netflix character’s real-life grandchildren.

The duchess wore a princess-like one-shoulder white gown with floral details by Alexander McQueen and, most notably, accessorized with a pair of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s massive diamond, pearl and silver earrings. Middleton and Prince William both chatted with Colman (we assume to fill her in on acting cues to more accurately portray their grandmother the queen).

Or perhaps they were giving suggestions for who should portray them on the small screen for the next few seasons of The Crown. (We imagine it'll be at least a few years before the show reaches that point, though, since season three is only expected to cover the royals' lives to 1976.)

That doesn't stop us from placing our bets, though: It's obvi Allison Williams (Girls) for Kate, and William Moseley (Narnia) for Wills.
