Celebeauty Sit-Down: Jennifer Aniston’s Colorist Reveals the Product That Will Give You That Rachel Shine

Celebeauty Sit Down is a new franchise from PureWow in which our editors chat with some of the biggest names in the celebrity beauty world exclusively. We uncover their tips, tricks and best-kept secrets so you can recreate your favorite A-lister’s look IRL.

It’s no secret that Jennifer Aniston’s hair is downright enviable. We’ve been lusting over her golden-hued locks since the ’90s (yes, it all started with The Rachel). And while she may have switched up her style here and there, Aniston’s sun-kissed tresses have remained vibrant as ever thanks to the work of her longtime colorist, Michael Canalé.

When PureWow sat down with Canalé exclusively to discuss the exciting new products in his eponymous hair-care collection, we had to keep from blurting out, “How do we get our hair to look as shiny as Jen’s?!” Luckily, he was happy to share the secret behind the 50-year-old Murder Mystery star’s iconic color…without an embarrassing outburst from us.

Canalé, who also works with Denise Richards and Kyra Sedgwick, said his approach to Aniston’s signature look hasn’t changed drastically since they first introduced The Rachel (paper-thin highlights and melted-together tones are key). But there’s one new facet to his process that we can all replicate: his new Cool Blue gloss, which was just released today.

The sought-after colorist explained that he used the new gloss on Aniston for her recent Harper’s Bazaar June/July cover shoot and on her forthcoming TV show with Reese Witherspoon, The Morning Show.

“We were doing the TV show and we decided to launch our new blue gloss with that. We basically highlighted her only, raw, and then we did the blue gloss over it,” Canalé explained. “And even if you look at the Bazaar [cover], you can see the sandy tone pop. Even though you’re seeing the light hit the top and you’re seeing the gold, you can [also] see the extreme shine from the new gloss—that lasts 20 shampoos.”

In addition to being long-lasting, Canalé says the Cool Blue gloss includes four applications in the bottle. And, if you use milder shampoos (Canalé suggests his $38 Cleanse shampoo), the luster will last even longer.

But shine isn’t the only perk of his new Aniston-approved gloss. It also boasts protective qualities that will definitely come in handy this summer.

“The whole line is about healthy hair. The gloss is there to protect, and it has a UV sunblock in it. It’s state of the art,” Canalé said.

To use the gloss, simply apply it to wet, freshly shampooed hair. Massage it evenly through your hair from root to tip, allow it to sit for three to five minutes, then rinse thoroughly, shampoo, condition and style as desired.

Canalé’s new signature Cool Blue gloss is currently available on his website for $47. We know what we’re doing this weekend.
