We Haven't Seen the Last of Hodor, and This Heartbreaking Theory About His Return on Sunday Is Making Us Woozy

Hold the door, because we haven’t seen the last of Hodor yet.

According to a mega-popular theory on Reddit, the lovable Hodor will return in season eight of Game of Thrones…but not in the way you’d hope.

Hodor, after saving Bran’s life by literally holding the door as the White Walkers tried to claw their way through (we still haven’t fully recovered), was turned into a White Walker and will be present (according to the theory) at the Battle of Winterfell in episode three.

The theory goes even further, suggesting that if/when the Night King arrives at the Godswood to kill Bran (whom Theon is supposed to be protecting), he’ll bring giant White Walker Hodor along with him for more psychological trauma. Perhaps Bran will have to watch Hodor come attack him before Theon kills him. Or Jon Snow will have to kill Hodor, since it would be pretty distressing for Jon, too. Plus, there’s an image of Jon wielding a sword in the Godswood in the episode three trailer. Benioff and Weiss, you’ve gone too far.

Since Bran is sort of a feeling-less robot right now, it may not have much of a traumatic effect on the Three-Eyed Raven. But we the audience will be SO not OK. Or perhaps he’ll come for Arya in the crypts (which we see her running through in the trailer). Not sure about you, but we really don’t think we can handle evil dead Hodor.

The Battle of Winterfell begins and ends when Game of Thrones season eight, episode three airs this Sunday, April 28, at 9 p.m. BRB, going to cry ourselves a river(run).
