Filming of the ‘Downton Abbey’ Movie Is Officially Underway

Good heavens! Start polishing the silver and dipping into the family jewels because the Crawleys have news of most epic proportions.

Focus Features announced today that the Downton Abbey movie is finally filming (Squee!)

Yes, the Countess of Grantham (Elizabeth McGovern), the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith), Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery), Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) and the Earl of Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) are all returning to their Yorkshire country estate.

Of course, the rest of the family (minus Lady Rose) and household staff will enjoy a homecoming as well. But there’s a whole fleet of newcomers too. In fact, Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), Geraldine James (Anne with an E), Simon Jones (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), David Haig (Killing Eve), Tuppence Middleton (The Imitation Game), Kate Philips (The Crown) and Stephen Campbell Moore (History Boys) are all along for the ride.

Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellows wrote the screenplay and is producing the film, which is being directed by Michael Engler (30 Rock). The movie is expected to drop in 2019.

All that’s left to do now is re-watch the entire series.
