Renovations always take twice as long and cost twice so much—or so the old adage goes. So when our super chic interior designer friend Gaby Gargano shared a pro tip for cutting down on both, we were all ears.
The fix? Buy your wood flooring pre-finished—as opposed to having it stained on-site. “If you choose natural wood floors, they have to be delivered and acclimate to the temperature and humidity before being installed," explained Gargano. "Then afterward, they'll have to be sanded and stained with two coats and a topcoat for protection. And then they need to cure before you move in!”
Gargano said that by simply buying a pre-finished option, you'll shave off anywhere from one to two weeks on your timeline—and naturally save money on labor costs too. One less decision to anguish over make.
