How to Turn an Old Drawer Into a Blanket Box

If you’re anything like us, then your entire living room is littered with throw blankets. While this makes for an easy excuse to binge-watch Ozark, it’s not exactly the most aesthetically pleasing when guests pop over. Thankfully, there’s a chic and simple solution.

What you’ll need: An old drawer, sandpaper, Minwax Gel Stain, clean cloths, Minwax Wipe-On Poly, patterned paper, hardware and hairpin legs

Step 1: Prep the drawer by removing all hardware, stripping the old finish and sanding down smooth. Wipe away any dust.

Step 2: Stir the gel stain until creamy and apply liberally with a clean cloth. After three minutes, wipe off excess with a clean, dry cloth and let it dry for 8 to 10 hours.

Step 3: Add a protective finish. Wipe down the drawer. Put Minwax Wipe-On Poly finish on a lint-free cloth, rub into wood and let it dry two to three hours before repeating the process. (Note: Shake the Wipe-On Poly thoroughly before and during use.) Lightly sand wood after the first coat has dried. After the second coat, let it dry for 24 hours.

Step 4: For the finishing touches, line with patterned paper, install modern hardware and attach hairpin legs. Fold up your blankets and tuck them inside.
