Bobby Berk, Queer Eye’s beloved design guru, has quite the talent for flipping homes on a dime—and in an epic time crunch, no less. So when Berk stopped by PureWow HQ to discuss his fab new lifestyle site bobbyberk.com, we had to ask about his best tips for achieving high-style design on a budget.
One surprising way he admitted to saving $ across his design projects? By scrimping on area rugs. According to Berk, rugs are decidedly not an item to invest too heavily in: “I’m never a huge fan of spending tons of money on rugs," he told us. "Like, those rugs that are thousands of dollars…you’re literally walking all over them.” (#truuue) Especially if you’re not in a ‘take your shoes off!’ kind of household,” he maintained that this kind of investment just doesn’t make sense.
