Your Ultimate Guide to Summer Celebrations: What to Do and Wear for Every Occasion
Unlike last summer (when we honed our sourdough-starters and finally reached the end of our Netflix queue), we are fully embracing every opportunity to get moving, get outside and make the most of each and every day. But where to start? And what the heck to wear? We’ve rocked worn-out PJs and grungy college tees for over 12 months. Our recco: Lean into the popular 90s trend with the cutest and comfiest looks for every summer excursion, all from Old Navy. Here are five creative ideas and outfits to celebrate summer in style.
1. Backyard "Bring Your Own Lawn Chair" (B.Y.O.L.C.) Bash
Summer is BBQ season, but if you want to mix things up (and take a bit of the planning off your plate), try a casual approach with an outdoor potluck instead. Just don’t forget the elastic waistband before the feast by donning comfiest sweat shorts of the season from Old Navy’s new Vintage Vibes Collection. Send e-vites to friends, family and neighbors asking them to bring their favorite summer food staple and a picnic blanket or lawn chair. This works for both a front or backyard gathering, or better yet—a big, breezy space like a nearby park.

2. Stargazing Soiree
Set your calendars! Did you know there are three full supermoons this year (the next one being June 24)? Let’s make it something to celebrate. Make sure to bundle in comfy vintage tie-dye sweatshirts and sweatpants from Old Navy for when the nighttime temps drop. Stay up late, grab the telescope, a blanket and pick a spot for some midnight moon-gazing. You could also try to catch the Perseids Meteor Shower on August 12.
3. Sno-Cone Social
Try a twist on the classic ice-cream social with crushed ice, a variety of flavors and plenty of toppings, like gummies, fresh berries and whipped cream. And just like ice cream, you’re bound to get a little sticky, so make sure the kids wear a bathing suit under their vintage vibes shorts and T-shirts for an afternoon sprinkler session. And with fun inflatables like this giant unicorn or this towering T-Rex, rinsing off any spilt sno-cone is a game in itself.

4. Poolside Karaoke
What better way to dip your toe into the outdoor concert experience than with this DIY version? Grab a karaoke mic and some friends and belt out your favorite tunes, right in the backyard. Host your own version of a reality TV singing contest, or pick a decade that everyone has to stick to for their song choices, then play up the vintage vibes with fun summer prints from Old Navy. Our favorite Karaoke songs to get your started: Anything by Céline Dion, The Cranberries or Billy Joel.

5. Lawn Games & Lunch
Croquet, bocce ball, cornhole, horseshoes, spikeball and badminton: Let the games begin! Host your own lawn Olympics by breaking into teams, and be sure to differentiate which team you’re on by donning matching tie-dye tops and sweat shorts from Old Navy in coordinating team colors. Keep score on a chalkboard or poster so you can crown a winner by the end of the afternoon, and don't forget to pause for a bite to eat (even lawn-game competitors need to keep their energy levels up) with mini sandwiches and salads.
