Queen Elizabeth Breaks Out the Emojis for Birthday Tribute to Great-Grandson Prince George

Queen Elizabeth just broke out not one, but two rare emojis in honor of a super-special occasion.

Earlier today, the 94-year-old monarch celebrated her great-grandson Prince George’s seventh birthday by sharing a heartfelt message on her official Instagram account (@theroyalfamily). The queen posted a photo of the young royal posing in a collared shirt, which has a not-so-subtle broken button.

Queen Elizabeth began the caption with two emojis: a balloon and a cake. While it’s not the first time she’s used symbols on social media, she doesn’t do it very often. When she does use emojis, it’s almost always for a family member’s birthday. (Sorry, none for you, plebeians.)

The rest of the caption read, “Wishing Prince George a very happy seventh birthday today! This photograph—taken by The Duchess of Cambridge—has been shared by @kensingtonroyal to mark the day.”

Kensington Palace debuted the official birthday portrait yesterday, just one day before Prince George’s celebration. The pic was accompanied by another photo of the birthday boy—but this time, he’s wearing a camouflage t-shirt as he candidly smiles at the camera. (Both pics were taken by Kate Middleton.)

It read, “Thank you everyone for your very kind wishes on Prince George’s birthday today!”

We don’t know how Prince George will spend his birthday this year, since he and his family are currently self-isolating at Anmer Hall. However, Prince William and Middleton already arranged self-isolation celebrations for his two siblings, Princess Charlotte (5) and Prince Louis (2) in the last few months, so they’re practically experts at throwing quarantine parties.

Wishing Prince George the happiest of birthdays.
