‘The Bachelor’ Episode 2 Recap: And the First Crier of the Season Is...
*Warning: Spoilers ahead*
Last week on The Bachelor, we met the 29 women vying for Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s heart. And tonight, he took the ladies on the first dates of the season and, well, jealousy set in. Here’s what went down.
On season 22, episode 11, the women are drinking champagne (natch) at the mansion when Chris Harrison arrives with a date card. And the first one-on-one date of the night goes to—drumroll, please—Becca K. (aka proposal girl from night one).
Arie Luyendyk Jr. picks up Becca K. on a motorcycle and whisks her off on a scenic drive along the California coast. The couple eventually pulls up to a house, which is stocked with a slew of fancy appetizers. Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe casually appears out of nowhere to style Becca K. in racks and racks of clothing. One pair of Louboutin shoes and diamond earrings later, Becca K. walks away with, like, an entire wardrobe, and the other girls are understandably pissed.
That night, Becca K. and Luyendyk Jr. sit down for a fancy dinner and some serious conversation. (You know, the usual.) After bonding over Luyendyk Jr.’s second chance and what they want in a relationship, Becca K. opens up about her health issues and says that her mom plays a huge role in her life. Luyendyk Jr. is grinning like a fool and offers Becca K. immunity for the week (aka a rose).
Back at the mansion, another date card arrives. But this time...it’s for Krystal.
For this date, Luyendyk Jr. and Krystal embark on a private jet to Scottsdale, Arizona. While there, the Bachelor not only brings her to his house, but he even breaks out the old photo albums and home videos.
Next up? His parents’ house (not kidding).
The pair stop by Luyendyk Jr.’s house to briefly meet his family, and we can’t help but notice that she appears to fit right in.
Later that night, Krystal tells him about her family life and relationship (or lack thereof) with her dad, which prompts Luyendyk Jr. to commend her on holding her own while meeting his family. He says he accepts everything about her—imperfections and all—and grants her the second rose of the night.
At long last, the first group date card arrives, which includes Maquel, Jenny, Seinne, Jenna, Caroline, Bibiana, Annaliese, Chelsea, Marikh, Brittany, Valerie, Bekah, Kendall, Lauren G. and Tia.
In true Bachelor fashion, the date consists of demolition derby, which is a polite term for crashing cars into random things until they’re no longer functional. After decorating their rides with spray paint, the fun begins.
But right when things start to get competitive, Annaliese claims the crown for the first crier of the season. She tells a story about a traumatic bumper car experience she had as a child and reveals she’s scared to get hurt. The girls, on the other hand, see Annaliese’s tears as a plea for attention.
Following a seriously brutal demolition derby, Seinne walks away victorious and, in turn, earns extra time with Luyendyk Jr.
Later that night, Chelsea—to no surprise—is the first to steal Luyendyk Jr. away. After apologizing for coming off as mysterious on the first night, Chelsea admits she held back because she’s a mom to a 3-year-old child.
Meanwhile, Bibiana is growing increasingly frustrated as Luyendyk Jr. spends individual time with the other girls on the group date...and not her.
But at the end of the night, Luyendyk Jr. can’t resist Seinne’s derby skills and gives her the group date rose. Chelsea looks on with envy.
During the cocktail party that follows, Bibiana is on a mission to get one-on-one time with Luyendyk Jr., but he has other plans.
The Bachelor steals Brittany away for the first convo of the night and presents her with a certificate for being the “Most Hardcore” during the group date.
What happens next is a chaotic blur of 30-second conversations, backstabbing steals (ahem, Krystal versus Bibiana) and lots of making out. Needless to say, Luyendyk Jr. is in over his head.
At the rose ceremony, he sends home Jenny, Valerie and Lauren G.
Ohh, things are getting juicy! Same time next week? You know where to find us.
