Former Butler Explains Why the Royal Family Hasn’t (& Probably Won’t) Address Prince Harry’s Memoir

If you’re wondering why the British royal family hasn’t addressed Prince Harry’s memoir, you should know there’s a valid reason behind their silence.

This week, Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell shared his thoughts about the royal family’s strategy and explained that it’s designed to protect them. “If they speak out, they fan the flames, they make it bigger, another news story,” he said (on behalf of Slingo). “It gives room for retaliation.”

Burrell revealed that the family’s biggest fear is more bad press. “Harry’s already done that by saying he’s got 400 pages of stuff which he could print, he might print, which Meghan might print because this is not the end of it because we’ve not heard Meghan’s side yet,” the former butler added. “There’s a whole different story coming from that department. But I just feel that they should remember the monarchy is a very special preserve which should be protected.”

“I know the way they work, to batten down the hatches, to close and retreat and regroup, stronger together as a family,” Burrell continued. “I think they are all as one and they agree that we have to protect ourselves because they are a rare species too and they have to survive. So, they are protecting themselves by not speaking out.”

Will the drama fade away in time for the king’s coronation? Or will it linger so long that it requires the royal family to finally say something (after all, Will has broken his silence in the past about accusations)? Only time will tell.
