This week on the season finale of The Bachelor, Arie Luyendyk Jr. takes Lauren B. and Becca K. on one last date before making the biggest decision of his life. Can the rejected woman change his mind? Here’s what went down on season 22, episode ten:
Lauren Meets the Parents
Chris Harrison kicks things off in front of a live studio audience and warns us about the “controversial” finale that’s to come. Dun dun dun.
Back in Peru, Arie turns to his family for help with choosing a fiancée and arranges one-on-one meetings with each of the women. First up is Lauren. She immediately tells his family she’s nervous and then dives into details about their love story. When she exits to chat with his parents solo, Arie opens up to his siblings, saying he has reservations about Lauren. He explains he spends a lot of time reassuring her of his feelings, which takes away from their time together.
On the other hand, Lauren does a fantastic job convincing his parents she’s madly in love with their son.
Becca Meets the Parents
Later on, Arie meets up with Becca before introducing her to his family. She admits she feels uneasy knowing that another woman wants to marry her man. He assures her there’s nothing to worry about and then brings her inside to meet the family.
We’d be lying if we didn’t say Becca is the epitome of someone you want to bring home to your parents. Her outgoing personality basically charms every member of the Luyendyk clan.
Arie’s mom pulls him aside and says she’s leaning toward Becca. He seems to be leaning her way too.
Lauren's Last Hoorah
The next day, Arie picks up Lauren for their final date before the big decision and whisks her away to picturesque Machu Picchu. They explore the Incan city, admire the views and try to stay dry from the rain.
The pair seem more comfortable than ever as they navigate the ruins and attempt (and fail) to outrun the cameras so they can sneak a kiss in private.
Later on, Arie joins Lauren in her room, where they sip Champagne, stare into each other’s eyes and chat about their love for one another. Lauren tears up while talking about how supportive he’s been throughout the entire process and tells him she’s ready to spend the rest of her life with him.
Arie is elated and says he could propose to her right then and there.
Becca's Last Chance
Despite the pouring rain, Arie meets up with Becca for their last date of the season. They make the most of their time by exploring a flea market, feeding wild llamas and immersing themselves in the culture.
When they sit down for drinks at a hilltop gazebo, Becca asks him if he’s nervous about tomorrow, and Arie spits out a completely irrelevant answer about how he’s never let her down in the past.
Later on, Becca presses Arie on his feelings, considering he could potentially be ripped away from her in less than 24 hours. Arie doesn’t hold back and tells her he’s still conflicted about who he wants to choose. Although he can’t pinpoint his hesitations, he assures her that he has no lingering questions regarding their relationship.
Before leaving, Becca gives him a scrapbook of their journey, and he eats it up.
The Big Decision
The next day, Arie says he finally knows who he wants to marry and meets with Neil Lane to pick out an engagement ring.
Lauren is the first to get out of the car, which (as we know) is never a good sign. After making the trek from the car to Arie, she dives into a speech about their journey and her overwhelming feelings for him. He returns the favor before throwing in the dreaded “but…”
He says he wanted it to work but can’t go through with their relationship, leaving Lauren in a state of confusion. She awkwardly excuses herself, and when she gets into the car, she admits she feels betrayed.
When Becca arrives, she nervously greets Arie and immediately recalls the story of the first time they met. Arie tells her his side of the story before getting down on one knee to propose. She, of course, says yes.
But Wait…There's More
Cut to Harrison introducing a video with footage of Arie and Becca’s first days as an engaged couple. Although they seem happy, Arie reveals he can’t stop thinking about Lauren, and Becca knows it. He says he feels an immense amount of guilt and can’t move forward with the engagement.
When Arie sits down with Becca to break things off, he says his heart isn’t in their relationship, and Becca—understandably—explodes with profanity. She demands to know what she did wrong, and he can’t answer, which only frustrates her more.
After a long, awkward silence, Becca wishes him well and excuses herself. Arie follows in an attempt to calm her down, but she isn’t having it and asks him to leave.
Will Lauren take Arie back? Guess we’ll find out when The Bachelor: After the Final Rose airs tomorrow at 8 p.m. on ABC.
