If the old notion about stress giving you gray hair is true, we have a hunch that New Yorkers would be the most grizzled population in the country. And while plenty of folks look awesome rocking their grays, there are also those of us who last set eyes on our natural color sometime around the initial Y2K panic.
Fortunately for the second group, maintaining the illusion just got a little easier. Color Bar, a new salon from the at-home dye wizards at Madison Reed, is all about keeping your color shampoo commercial-worthy without taking up your whole Saturday—or costing half a paycheck.
The signature offering is a demi-permanent “root reboot” ($35), which keeps grays at bay for up to 15 washes. You can also go for a (permanent) single-process root touch-up for $60, a $35 color-reviving gloss, or a touch-up + gloss + blowout for $120.
Along with the beyond-reasonable prices, another major perk is convenience: A touch-up will have you in and out in under 90 minutes, appointments are easy to book online and walk-ins are even an option for when you can’t deal with the stripe on your part for one more minute.
The whole process is so stress-free, it might even slow down those encroaching grays. And if not, no one will be the wiser.
