It’s a Chinese takeout kind of night. (Then again, isn’t it always?) But no evening of lo-mein-and-Netflix-in-PJs is complete without a nice, big glass of wine to pair it with. Instead of your usual method of going to the liquor store and picking the bottle with the cutest label (don’t worry—we do it, too), we asked sommelier Artur Aronov of Aberdeen Street Social in Hong Kong, China, for some guidance.

Aronov’s top pick to drink with Chinese food? A bottle of 2014 Laureau Savennieres Les Genets. “It’s a brilliant wine that works like magic,” he says, adding that it pairs perfectly with everything from Char Siu (a traditional sweet-and-sour barbecue pork dish) to white rice. “This turbocharged Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley packs a punch with notes of melon, kiwi, quince and honeydew, rounded out with a great acidity that gives this wine an extraordinary balance.”

If you can't find this particular bottle, any decent Chenin Blanc with a little bit of sweetness and acidity will do. Not familiar with this magical white grape? Just think of it as a cross between Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

And just like that, a boring night at home is totally transformed into a classy culinary extravaganza. Pass the chopsticks.
