Elle Fanning Had a Major Fashion Fail at the Cannes Film Festival (but It’s Not What You Think)
Elle Fanning has been making headlines in the fashion world since her Hollywood debut in 2001 (yes, she was only 3 years old). Now, the 21-year-old actress is known for her polished, feminine style both on and off the red carpet. Her most recent display? The parade of picture-perfect looks she wore at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, one of which left us her a little…short of breath.
At Monday night's Chopard Trophée dinner in Cannes, France, Fanning donned a nude tulle Prada gown adorned with weeping flowers and a waist-cinching bodice. It was elegant, form-fitting and, apparently, just a bit too tight. The Maleficent: Mistress of Evil star briefly fainted, falling off her chair during the dinner festivities. Luckily, her big sister Dakota was right there to help her up.
After recovering from the scare, Fanning hit up Instagram to let her fans know there was nothing to worry about. Snapping a picture with a reassuring thumbs-up, she wrote, "Oops, had a fainting spell tonight in my 1950’s Prada prom dress but it’s all good!!" Her corresponding hashtags explained it all: "#dresstootight #timeofthemonth." We feel you, girl.
And as it turns out, the women in Hollywood know a thing or two about suffering for the sake of fashion (hello, stilettos). Fellow actress January Jones responded in the comments, writing, "Where's your smelling salts when you need em??" Kiernan Shipka (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) also made light of the incident, dubbing Fanning a "literal icon" for her dedication to the dress.
Keep the spot-on looks coming, Elle (but next time, leave a little room to breathe).
