Peter Weber Isn’t Allowed to Give Ladies on ‘The Bachelor’ His Jacket (Yes, Really)

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

If you’ve ever watched The Bachelor, then you know a great deal of the contestants’ time is spent wearing slinky evening gowns (often with cutouts) in the cold while their potential husband sits cozy in a suit. It’s a fact that’s gone, for the most part, unnoticed—until now.

Have you ever wondered why the Bachelor never offers the poor women vying for his heart his jacket? The thought may have crossed your mind during the pre-fantasy suite rose ceremony (where Victoria F. did not go home) that was held in a drafty airplane hanger. When Madison asked Peter Weber if they could talk in private, he led her outside (another cold place) and she murmured, “It’s frickin’ cold out here!” The 28-year-old pilot said nothing and allowed his potential wife to shiver away in her sequined jumpsuit. (Side note: Where do these women find their Bachelor clothing?) Apparently, there’s a reason that neither Weber nor any previous Bachelor, has offered one of the women his coat—and it’s not just because chivalry is dead.

As a Bachelor producer told Entertainment Weekly, it actually boils down to what looks good on camera. The producer explained, “The Bachelor nearly always offers his jacket to every shivering woman sitting in front of him. But [we] tell him not to, because it looks so damn silly.” Um, excuse us?

But rest assured concerned Bachelor fans, the production team offsets the potential silliness of “a small woman draped in an enormous blazer” by keeping an assortment of pashminas around. (Come to think of it, we don’t think we’ve ever seen one of the women wear a pashmina on the show.)

Well, that solves that mystery.
