This Super Intense New Movie Just Hit Netflix's Top 10 (& It’s Easy to See Why)

A brand-new movie has made its way to the top of Netflix's most-watched movies list (and no, it's not another crime thriller).

Allow us to introduce you to Outside the Wire, a Netflix sci-fi film that stars Anthony Mackie, AKA Falcon from the Avengers films. Released on Jan. 15, the movie quickly landed the #1 spot on the streaming service's top 10 list, surpassing popular titles like The Vanished, Penguins of Madagascar and We Can Be Heroes. Although the film was met with mixed reviews from critics, it's getting quite a bit of attention—and judging by this trailer, we can already see why.

Set in 2036 during a civil war in Ukraine, Outside the Wire follows Lieutenant Harp, a drone pilot who gets sent into a war zone and assigned to Captain Leo. However, Harp makes a shocking discovery about the captain and, together, the two must find a way to stop a deadly nuclear attack.

In addition to Mackie, the film stars Damson Idris, Emily Beecham, Michael Kelly and Pilou Asbæk. The film was directed by Mikael Håfström and produced by Mackie, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Ben Pugh, Erica Steinberg, Jason Spire and Arash Amel.

As seen in the trailer, the film has its fair share of massive explosions and shoot-outs, but there's actually a lot more to the flick than intense action scenes. Movie critic Randy Myers calls it "an efficient, fast-paced rollercoaster ride that's smart and buoyed by a razor-sharp screenplay and two magnetic performances." Meanwhile, Patrick McDonald said the film is a mix of Terminator and Rambo, adding that there's a "morality to drones & robots waging war."

Guess our plans for tonight will involve a wealth of snacks and a viewing of Outside the Wire.
