The 18 Best Christmas Movies on Netflix That You Can Stream Right Now
’Tis the season to live in your pajamas, sip on hot cocoa and cancel all plans so that you can immerse yourself in the holiday spirit with a heartwarming Christmas flick (or two or three). And sure, some of them are totally cheesy, but we’ve already got our red-and-green onesies picked out and our sick days (read: Netflix days) in the cal. Here, the best Christmas movies on Netflix—from holiday classics to cult favorites and everything in between.
1. ‘White Christmas’
This holiday classic stars Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney (George’s aunt) and Vera-Ellen as singers who put on a variety show in order to save a quaint New England inn from closing. Spoiler alert: They succeed.
When Jesper the postman (Jason Schwartzman) is given an ultimatum to either start a post office in the Arctic Circle or be cut off from the family’s fortune, he’s ready to give up. But after he befriends local teacher Alva (Rashida Jones), the duo soon discovers Klaus (J.K. Simmons), a mysterious carpenter who lives in a cabin full of handmade toys.
3. ‘The Christmas Chronicles’
Kurt Russell stars as Santa Claus in this holiday adventure that has all the makings of a classic: kids up to no good, the threat of a canceled Christmas and a boy who doesn’t believe in Santa. Stream it now and then watch the sequel, The Christmas Chronicles 2, when it comes out next year.
4. ‘The Princess Switch’
What happens when you take The Parent Trap, add in some royal drama and two Vanessa Hudgens(es) and set it all during the holiday season? The Princess Switch, that’s what.
5. ‘Let It Snow’
A group of high school students is brought together when a snowstorm hits their small Midwestern town on Christmas Eve. Based on the young adult novel of the same name, this is the movie to put on when your teenage niece who’s, like, way too cool for you, comes over.
6. ‘Christmas With the Kranks’
This slapstick comedy from 2004 tells the story of a couple (Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis) as they toy with the idea of skipping Christmas—if only their family and neighbors will let them, that is.
7. ‘A Christmas Prince’
This 2017 film was Netflix’s first foray into holiday rom-coms and it didn’t disappoint. An aspiring journalist sneaks into a castle to get the inside scoop for a story on the handsome prince.
8. ‘A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding’
It’s one year later, and Amber and Richard are tying the knot in a royal Christmas wedding (because, of course). But when Amber starts to second-guess her role as queen, the couple’s happily-ever-after may be in jeopardy.
9. ‘Christmas Inheritance’
Before she can inherit the family business, a young heiress has to travel to her father’s hometown to deliver a special Christmas card. But when she’s stranded there in a snowstorm, she discovers that small-town life is way more exciting than she ever expected. If cheesy Hallmark moments are your thing (hey, no judgment), then this one’s for you.
10. ‘A Very Murray Christmas’
This feel-good holiday special features an A-list crowd (George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Rashida Jones and Maya Rudolph) for a good old-fashioned sing-along to help Murray (as in Bill) beat the Christmas blues.
11. ‘Santa Claws’
When Santa has an allergic reaction to a gift sack of stowaway cats, the kitties have to figure out a way to deliver all of his presents in time. One for the kids (and the kids at heart).
12. ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’
Dr. Seuss’s Christmas tale comes to life with an all-star cast (Jim Carrey, Molly Shannon and Anthony Hopkins), special effects and laugh-out-loud comedy. Watch on Friday and then for even more Whoville fun, stream the most recent adaptation, The Grinch, on Saturday.
13. ‘Holiday Classics’
OK, so it’s not technically a movie but rather five episodes of your kid’s favorite characters (like Shrek and Donkey, Hiccup and Toothless, and the wacky animals from Madagascar). Put this one on when you need 30 minutes to yourself to get your online shopping done.
14. ‘A Holiday Engagement’
When a woman gets dumped right before the holidays, she hires an actor to play her fiancé during a weekend at her mom's house. Remember that Debra Messing movie, The Wedding Date? This is basically the holiday version of that.
15. ‘El Camino Christmas’
Jessica Alba and Dax Shepard star in this Netflix original about five strangers who get trapped together inside a liquor store during a holdup on Christmas Eve. Will you get that warm, fuzzy feeling inside after watching? Erm, no. But the twist at the end keeps things interesting.
16. ‘The Nutcracker and the Four Realms’
Real talk: Ballet tickets are expensive (and you definitely can’t wear your pj’s). Instead, stream this Alice in Wonderland–esque take on Tchaikovsky’s classic Christmas tale from the comfort of your couch.
17. ‘Tree Man’
Listen up, New Yorkers: Ever wonder where those Christmas trees lining the streets actually come from? This documentary follows Francois (aka the Tree Man) and the fascinating journey he takes from Quebec to NYC every Christmas season to spread holiday cheer.
