Ralph Lauren Designed a ‘Classic’ Opening Ceremony Look for Team USA—Here’s a First Glimpse

When it comes to the Olympic Games, comfort is key. So, it’s no surprise that Team USA enlisted Ralph Lauren for all their fashion needs.

The brand recently debuted the opening ceremony outfits that Team USA will wear in Tokyo. Ralph Lauren introduced the design on a recent episode of the Today show, enlisting models to show off the new uniforms.

Team USA’s opening ceremony look consists of a chic blazer, a blue-and-white T-shirt, a patriotic scarf, fitted jeans, a striped belt and coordinating red, white and blue shoes. The outfits are completely sustainable, using everything from recycled polyester to “an innovative leather-alternative material made from renewable resources.”

According to the press release, “Team USA’s 2020 Opening Ceremony Parade Uniform is a classic all-American look that incorporates sustainable materials within each piece.”

The only exception to the uniform is the flag bearer, who will be the only member of Team USA wearing a white denim jacket.

Per the press release, the flag bearer’s outfit is specifically designed to withstand the Tokyo heat. This is mainly due to Ralph Lauren’s new RL Cooling technology, which is a revolutionary material science that regulates body temperature.

“Recognizing Tokyo’s summer heat, we sought to develop a solution for Team USA that fuses fashion and function—allowing them to look and feel their best on one of the world’s biggest stages,” said David Lauren (chief branding and innovation officer for Ralph Lauren Corporation).

July 23 can’t come soon enough.
