Why Katie Holmes Feels Like She and Daughter Suri ‘Grew Up Together’

Katie Holmes is getting candid about motherhood and raising her daughter, Suri.

The Dawson’s Creek alum is featured on the cover of Elle UK for their December issue and revealed everything from the DC reunion to her family life.

The 40-year-old actress welcomed daughter Suri Cruise, whom she shares with ex Tom Cruise, in 2006, when she was 27.

“I was happy to become a mom in my twenties,” she told the magazine. “It’s been nice that our ages fit… how do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together.”

Holmes is known for keeping her private life with Suri (and also her relationships) under the radar. However, she will share the occasional photo of her 13-year-old daughter on social media. The two have also been frequently spotted around New York City by paparazzi.

Back in March, Holmes shared some photos from a service trip to Greece. One month later, the mother-daughter duo made a rare public appearance in SoHo in honor of Suri’s 13th birthday. The pics revealed that when she's not teaching her new teenager about philanthropy, they're sometimes walking the streets of New York City trying (successfully) to hail a cab. Ultimate mom goals internationally and domestically.

In the interview, the actress also opened up about the apartment that the mother-daughter duo share in New York. “It’s really homey,” said Holmes. “I have a lot of pictures. I like vintage art from flea markets. Because we’re in New York, I want our apartment to be very cosy and soft—the city around us is so intense and hard. So that’s our style. And a lot of colors.”

Katie, if you’re reading this, please keep the Suri talk coming.
