The Totally Natural, Non-Ambien Way to Fall Asleep

We’ve tried everything: Sleep masks. Noise machines. Drugs. But as it turns out, the secret to a blissful night’s sleep might actually be something you can keep in the fridge.

According to researchers at the Sleep Health Foundation, something called “night milk” may be the insomnia cure we’ve been searching for our entire adult life.

You’re probably wondering, Um, what the heck is night milk? Basically, it’s milk collected from cows between 2 and 4 a.m.--and it contains a whopping ten times more melatonin than daytime milk. It’s also super rich in tryptophan (a sleep-inducing compound), which means hello, sedative effects.

In fact, within an hour after feeding varying doses of night milk to mice, scientists noticed a major decrease in physical activity and increased sleep time, and an increased inclination to explore open spaces (a sign of reduced anxiety).

It hasn’t been tested on humans yet (although it is for sale in Germany), but don’t be surprised if you find it in a dairy aisle in the near future. You know… right next to the night cheese.
