We're screaming with Glee, and not just because Ryan Murphy just dropped a first look at the cast in American Horror Story: 1984 (though, that, too).
Glee's Matthew Morrison joins a squad of fresh faces on the next season of AHS, plus a bunch of returning favorites. Emma Roberts, Cody Fern, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman and John Carroll Lynch are all back for the ninth season of the anthology series. Newcomers include Morrison, plus Zach Villa (Shameless), Angelica Ross (Pose), DeRon Horton (Dear White People) and Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy.
In the video, a vintage black-and-white movie countdown flashes just the number nine (for AHS season nine) before we see the cast in full '80s Jazzercise costumes including leotards, sweatbands, hair spray, leg warmers, some veryyyy up-close shorts shots (Mr. Schuester, is that you?!) and the most glorious bright blue eye shadow. And, yes, we did notice Fern's single cross earring…is this a call out to his former Apocalypse character, the Antichrist? While not much has been revealed about 1984 yet, we do know the next chapter will pay homage to the ’80s slasher movie genre popularized by movies like Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street. From this promo, it looks like the setting is some sort of summer camp, and we know that Roberts and Kenworthy will play each other’s love interests.
We also know show veterans Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will sit out of this installment. (Though it's still possible Paulson could appear in a cameo.)
AHS: 1984 premieres on September 18 on FX.
