You Can Now Buy Croissant-Inspired Sneakers, and They Look...Delicious

Remember back in 2013 when America had Cronut® fever? The decadent pastry launched its creator, Dominique Ansel, to baking superstardom (he was named “The World’s Best Pastry Chef” in 2017). Now, Ansel has teamed up with shoe brand Koio for a limited-edition sneaker that's inspired by another one of his specialties, the classic French croissant.

The sneaker is designed to reflect the four elements of baking that serve as the base for all of Ansel’s creations: flour, butter, sugar and eggs.

Packaged with an exclusive Dominique Ansel Pancake Mix (yum), the shoe’s upper features a blend of egg-shell calf leather, flour white suede, butter patent leather and crystallized sugar detailing on the toe and heel. Butter-yellow laces (literally) tie it all together. For what it's worth, we're getting serious dad-shoe vibes, and we're into it.

In a press release, Ansel, who's also known for his Cookie Shot, Frozen S'More and Blossoming Hot Chocolate, said, “I was excited to collaborate with Koio on this shoe because I see such strong parallels between the technical precision required in baking and that required in the craftsmanship of a high-quality sneaker. I wear sneakers every day and wearing comfortable shoes is essential when I’m spending most of the day on my feet in the kitchen or traveling to my locations around the world. I really wanted the design of this sneaker to not just speak to my style and need for comfort, but also, to tell the story of my craft by mirroring the colors and textures of the four ingredients that are essential in every pastry creation.”

Priced at $348, the sneakers are available for purchase online and in Koio stores.

Delicious and nutritious stylish.
