Finn Wolfhard Is Ditching His ‘Stranger Things’ Walkie-Talkie for a Major New Role

Mike Wheeler as an art-pilfering Ukrainian boy? Stranger Things have happened…

Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike on Netflix’s hit sci-fi show, officially signed on to play the role of Young Boris in the Warner Brothers and Amazon adaptation of Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize–winning novel, The Goldfinch.

The film portrays a boy named Theo who grapples with the unexpected loss of his mother after a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In the wake of his loss, Theo is sent to live with a well-to-do family and then carted off to Las Vegas to stay with his deadbeat dad. There, young Theo meets Boris (Wolfhard), a Ukrainian student who introduces him to drugs and alcohol.

Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver) plays the grown-up version of Theo, who, in an effort to keep the memory of his mother alive, searches for the famed Dutch painting “The Goldfinch” he stole the day she died and has since lost.

Sarah Paulson, Jeffrey Wright, Luke Wilson and Aneurin Barnard also star in the movie from director John Crowley (Brooklyn)Production is slated to begin next week and, as serious bibliophiles, we’re giddy with anticipation.
