Here’s the gist: In a new study conducted by Tufts University, half of the test subjects were given a diet rich in whole grains, like whole-wheat bread and whole-wheat pasta. The other half was fed a diet that replaced those whole grains with refined carbohydrates, like white rice and white bread. The subjects eating whole grains lost an average of 100 calories more a day, just by consuming the extra fiber.
Does that mean you should start eating whole-grain pizza and pasta every day? Probably not. But should you swap brown rice for white in your sushi whenever possible? Totally.
