3 Uber Hacks That Will Seriously Upgrade Your Thanksgiving Travel
Bye, airport cab line
Damn you, Thanksgiving travel. Is it too much to ask that you go smoothly so we can get where we’re going and stuff our face with mashed potatoes and apple pie? Uber to the rescue: These three in-app tricks are brilliant and pretty big time-savers, no matter the length of your trip.
Schedule Rides Up to 30 Days in Advance
So you already know your flight to LAX leaves before dawn. Save yourself the early-morning panic and use Uber’s calendar feature to book your ride up to a month in advance. All you have to do is open the app. Right next to Where To? you’ll see a calendar icon. Tap it and a drop-down menu with scheduling details (date, time, location and destination) will appear. The best part: The price is the same as a regular pickup and you can cancel anytime before your ride is accepted by a driver.
Select Your Exact Airport Terminal for Pickup
Nothing’s worse than an hour-long wait in the airport (or train station) cab line. To avoid it, open the Uber app after you grab your bags and enter your destination. You’ll get a prompt to input your exact terminal and door number, not to mention exactly where to meet your driver (as far from the taxi line as possible).
Share Your ETA With Your Family
Avoid all the back-and-forth phone calls and texting by sharing your exact location on the road with a click. Once your ride is confirmed in the Uber app, tap the drop-down menu next to your driver’s name. There you’ll see the option Share My ETA. Plug in your destination and the phone numbers of the people you’d like to share your location with and they’ll immediately get a text and a map with GPS and your exact coordinates. Not bad.
