Netflix’s ‘Love on the Spectrum’ Is the Feel-Good Show We’ve Been Looking For

Netflix knows we could all use a little feel-good television these days. Luckily, the streaming service is gifting us with a brand-new series, Love on the Spectrum, about singles who are on the autism spectrum trying to find love. Here’s everything we know.

Love on the Spectrum is a four-part docuseries that follows young adults on the autism spectrum as they try to navigate love, dating and relationships. The series also includes appearances from the cast’s family and friends, a relationship coach and a clinical psychologist specializing in autism spectrum disorders, all who help the cast members along their journey.

"In making television series about disability over the years, I have spoken to many young adults on the autism spectrum as well as families, job coaches, psychologists, and autism organisations,” said director Cian O'Leary in a statement per Entertainment Weekly. “One thing really stood out for me: So many people on the spectrum were wanting to find love, but many had never even been on a date in their lives. When you speak to a large number of people whose main desire in life is to have a partner, and they haven’t even been on a date, something isn’t right."

"As a storyteller, I felt we had an opportunity to explore this issue by shining a light on the struggles many people on the spectrum face in seeking out meaningful relationships," she continued. "I hope this series will start conversations, help bring about understanding and acceptance, and ultimately inspire people with autism, their families and society at large to find ways to help people on the spectrum find love."

There sure is. The streaming giant released the first trailer on Tuesday, July 7. The almost 2-minute long clip teases the journey of seven singles as they struggle throughout the dating process and learn the ways of the modern dating world. Watch the full clip below.
