7 Blast-from-the-Past Halloween Movies Screening in NYC This Week

We ain't afraid of no ghosts

Guys, it’s T-minus five days until Halloween, and you know what that means: It’s scary-movie time (preferably while eating popcorn topped with M&Ms).

There’s nothing like watching Poltergeist at midnight. Or The Rocky Horror Picture Show under the stars. Or Ghostbusters, well, anywhere.

And if you live in NYC, they’re all screening this week at a theater (or pool) near you.

"ghostbusters"

Zip up your jumpsuit and go ghost hunting with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver--there’s no better way to start the week.

209 W. Houston St. (at Varick St.); 212-727-8100 or filmforum.org

"scream"

This bloody ’90s thriller is equally as scary in the theater as it was in your high school bestie’s parents’ basement.

29 Wythe Ave. (at 14th St.), Brooklyn; bkhorrorclub.com

"the Rocky Horror Picture Show"

Dressing up and doing the Time Warp with Frank-N-Furter and our Transylvanian friends is a Halloween no-brainer, but singing “Don’t Dream It, Be It” in an actual (empty) pool? So in.

776 Lorimer St. (at Bayard St.), Brooklyn; 718-965-6580 or mccarrenpark.com

"a Nightmare On Elm Street"

Get your Freddy fix with the 1984 original before the new reboot comes out. (And if you’re like us, you’ll then go home and sleep with the lights on.)

143 E. Houston St. (at Forsyth St.); 212-330-8182 or landmarktheatres.com

"night Of The Living Dead"

Move over, The Walking Dead--this movie’s got OG zombies. Also, it’s in grainy black-and-white, which automatically makes everything 100 times scarier.

150 W. 17th St. (at Seventh Ave.); 212-620-5000 or rubinmuseum.org

"poltergeist"

Nitehawk’s Halloween movie marathon starts at midnight--come for the creepy ghosts in this 1982 classic and stay for House on Haunted Hill, A Bay of Blood, Twitch of the Death Nerve and Scream.

136 Metropolitan Ave. (at Berry St.), Brooklyn; 718-782-8370 or nitehawkcinema.com

"shaun Of The Dead"

Still scarred for life from that time you watched The Exorcist? Yeah, us too. Stick with this hilarious (and only semi-scary) 2004 ode to horror flicks instead.

308 Bedford Ave. (at First St.), Brooklyn; 718-782-3468 or videologybarandcinema.com
