Are we the only ones who hadn’t heard of the 2016 action thriller The Accountant starring Ben Affleck?!

And yet, the movie is currently holding the number one spot on Netflix’s top ten movies list, dethroning the 2022 war drama Mending the Line (which features Succession alum Brian Cox).

The Accountant follows Christian Wolf (Affleck), a public accountant (and math wiz) with autism who is known for “uncooking” the books, which is code for getting rid of fraudulent accounting records for high-profile organizations. Oh, and did we mention he’s also a secret assassin?

When he starts working for a new client, Wolf discovers that fraud is being committed in the Treasury Department. As he starts to get closer to the truth, a slew of bodies follow in his wake.

Aside from Affleck, The Accountant has a pretty stacked cast, which includes notable names like Anna Kendrick, Jon Bernthal, J. K. Simmons, John Lithgow and Jean Smart.

Though The Accountant and Mending the Line are occupying the top two spots on the list, both films are followed by On the Line (2022), The Super Marios Bros. Movie (2023), Irish Wish (2024), Damsel (2024), Shirley (2024), The Miracle Club (2023), The Boss Baby (2017) and Minions (2015).

Back in October 2016, Affleck revealed that the role was “challenging” for him to play.

At the time, he said (per Collider), “It was a very challenging role and it required a lot of research. [Director] Gavin [O’Connor] and I went around and spent time with people who were at various places on the autism spectrum, and observed behavior and talked to them and engaged with them in everything from what their daily life is like to what type of movie they’d like to see about someone with autism.”
