Food has a way of making us feel guilty for enjoying it when, in reality, it should be the opposite. Helping to reinforce that reality is myWW from WW (formerly Weight Watchers), the science-based weight-loss program that allows members to adopt better eating habits and achieve goals in a healthy way.

The newly designed program matches members to a customized plan based on a personal assessment of their lifestyle and behaviors. While the plans are all grounded in the SmartPoints system, which simplifies complicated nutritional information into one number, they each allow for different daily amounts and varying lists of ZeroPoint foods that you don’t have to track or measure. And if the plan you choose at the start isn’t flexible or effective for you, you can easily switch whenever you want. Yup, it’s that easy.

Of course, we always hear of success stories from people in the WW community, but it’s even better when the feedback comes from family, friends and coworkers. That’s why we tapped two PureWow staffers who are surprisingly on the same plan to spill their thoughts. Here’s what they had to say.

Lisa, The Resetter

Why did you sign up for WW (formerly Weight Watchers)?

“To reset some of my (questionable) eating habits that could be improved, like portion control and late-night snacking…and to lose weight! I’ve actually done WW in the past from time to time to keep myself in check, and I always find it super easy to jump back into the swing of things even if I haven’t done it in a while. Bottom line: It works.”

Which customized plan are you on?

“I was matched with the Blue Plan, which is most similar to their previous program, WW Freestyle, and the plan I had success on previously. For now, I’m sticking with it because it’s a nice middle ground for me. You’re allotted a decent amount of daily SmartPoints, but you still get a wide variety of ZeroPoint food options because proteins like chicken breast, lean turkey and fish are all ZeroPoint foods.”

Tell us about your daily food diary (and spill your tricks for success).

“Every day is fairly different for me depending on whether it’s a weekend or a workday. I have some staples that I know work with my schedule. For example, I’m not a big breakfast person, so I’ll usually start my day with a 4-SmartPoints value skim latte. For lunch I try to keep it to a lean protein or fish (chicken or salmon) and a ton of veggies and greens.

“In general, I keep a ton of fruit and veggies in my apartment to eat whenever I want because they’re all ZeroPoint foods. If I have a lunch or dinner to go to for work or fun, I try to really plan ahead to save up some SmartPoints for those meals.”

Do you find that tracking helps keep you accountable?

“Yes! This keeps me honest. I really try to find ways to make foods lower in SmartPoints, which is why I love the barcode scanner on the app. It’s life changing when I’m grocery shopping because it helps me compare packaged food items and go with the one with a lower SmartPoints value.”

How long have you been on the program and how does it make you feel?

“I’ve been doing it on and off for a few years, but for this most recent time, it’s been about two months and I’ve lost about seven pounds.* Some weeks are harder than others, especially with the holiday season, but overall, I love the fact that I can always jump back into the app no matter where I am in the process.”

Why do you love the new myWW program?

“The program is foolproof and it makes me feel great when I see how successful I am while following it. And, in addition to my love for the barcode scanner, the app gives you access to a zillion low-SmartPoints recipes to make.”

Vanessa, The New Mama

Why did you sign up for WW (formerly Weight Watchers)?

“I have a 5-month-old baby, and I want to lose the last few pounds of stubborn baby weight.”

Which customized plan are you on?

“I’m on the Blue Plan because it’s the most similar to WW Freestyle, which I loved so much that I didn’t want to change.”

Tell us about your daily food diary (and spill your tricks for success).

“I try to keep my SmartPoints on the lower side throughout the day so that if I want to enjoy a slice of pizza (or two) and a glass of wine at dinner, I don’t have to feel bad about it! For breakfast, I’ll fill up with protein-packed eggs and salmon with some fruit on the side because those are all ZeroPoint foods.

“Another thing I’ve learned is to double-check my choice of condiments like salad dressing or ketchup, because they eat up SmartPoints quickly. Instead, I’ll swap them out for something with lower points, like balsamic vinegar or mustard.”

Do you find that tracking helps keep you accountable?

“Totally, and as you keep using the program, you start learning which foods have higher points than others so it’s easy to avoid eating them.”

How long have you been on the program and how does it make you feel?

“I’ve been doing myWW for about two months. I feel like I have control over my weight gain due to pregnancy, and the program is helping me shed the pounds in a healthy way.”

Why do you love the new myWW program?

“It’s honestly so easy and it doesn’t feel like a typical ‘diet’ because I can still enjoy all the foods I love. Plus, it’s cost-efficient and it doesn’t take up a lot of time because it becomes second nature.”
