Meet Selenite, the Crystal You Probably Need If Your Life Is Filled with Drama

Curious about crystals? Us, too. It turns out that some healing crystals are used to attract positive energy (like rose quartz for love or citrine for good fortune), while others expel the bad stuff. That’s why we tapped Heather Askinosie, co-founder of Energy Muse and author of Crystal Muse: Every Day Rituals to Tune Into the Real You, to find out more about ultra cleansing, negativity-clearing selenite. 

Color: White or transparent, but when selenite crystals form with other minerals (like copper or sand), then it can take on a different hue (like green or gold).

Origin: Also known as liquid light, selenite can be found around the world including in the United States, Mexico, Russia, Japan, Australia and Brazil.

Healing properties: “Selenite has the ability to cleanse, purify and align you with your highest potential,” says Askinosie. Harnessing the crystal’s clearing powers will help keep feelings of grief, fear, anger and anxiety out of your mental and physical space. (You know, if you believe in this kind of thing.) 

How to use it: “Place selenite on a windowsill in your home to raise the vibration of your space,” suggests Askinosie. Why? Because low vibrational energies attract negativity, whereas raising your vibrations clears it. Or you can just brush the crystal up and down your body (about three inches away from you) to clear your aura and energy field. We’re calling it—crystal brushing is the new dry brushing.
