If you’re into fitness and wellness, you probably recognize Karen Lord. The founder of Karen Lord Pilates Movement (and renowned Pilates trainer herself) currently heads up a studio in Venice, CA. Between teaching and running her studio, she gave us the scoop on how she fuels her body. From chocolate-covered macadamia nuts to (vegan) pizza, here’s everything she eats in a day to look and feel her absolute best.

8 a.m.

“I drink a cup of warm water with lemon to reset my alkalinity and start to hydrate. Then, I make my morning matcha, using organic ceremonial grade with oat milk and maple syrup. It’s good caffeine—no jitters, just sustained energy.”

9 a.m.

“My breakfast is usually a huge protein smoothie with Orgain Organic meal replacement powder. I add wild blueberries, strawberries, spinach, oat milk, dried almonds, Maca, turmeric and my friend Jena’s adaptogen powder from Agent Nateur.”

Noon  

“Lunch is usually a meeting, and I like to meet at Erewhon, a grocery store and café that has a location close to my studio. I’ll grab something from the salad bar loaded with greens, beans, healthy oils and kelp noodles.”

4 p.m.

“For a midday snack, I like to mix dark-chocolate-covered macadamia nuts from Medicinal Foods (for good fats) and goldenberries from Navitas Naturals. If I’m still really hungry, I’ll have green apples and hummus. It’s filling and gives me energy.”

7:30 p.m.

“I like going out to dinner. Sometimes that means a meeting or just enjoying good food with friends. I love Double Zero in Venice for vegan pizza and salads. If I’m cooking at home, I’ll make easy pasta with red sauce, steamed veggies with garlic and a salad, all from the Santa Monica farmers market.”

11 p.m.

“Before bed, I make a powdered drink called Magnelevures to help me relax and sleep. I get the packets from my naturopath, and they contain magnesium, B vitamins and glutathione. I just add warm water, and nothing helps me sleep better.”
