Jess Baumgardner

Meet the marketing vet turned wellness maven

Jess Baumgardner’s journey is one of those success stories that gives us happy goose bumps: After working for years in marketing and advertising—a career she didn’t truly love—Jess moved from NYC to Philly in search of balance. To her surprise, this relocation (which started as a stress reset) quickly manifested itself as a calling in the wellness space. Now Jess is on a decidedly different kind of hustle as a certified health coach and the co-founder of B+YND, a company that creates wellness experiences from retreats and festivals to dinners and cooking classes. Get to know this powerhouse mama and entrepreneur below.

On the best and worst parts of her job. “The hardest and the most rewarding part of my job is the flexibility. I don't have to answer to any 'bosses,' I can make my own hours, and I can set my own agenda. That also means I sometimes work until midnight because I want to be able to take the kids to the park on a nice day.”

On the words she’s living by these days. “@devibrown recently said, 'We have to stop judging people based on who we are and judge them based on who they are. Everyone is just doing the best they can in each moment...' This is really resonating with me right now as I encounter many, many different people in the business.”

On her most out-there work experience. “During my first job out of college, I worked at an ad agency and my client was the state of Pennsylvania. I volunteered to work on a campaign for them where I literally dressed up as a groundhog and traveled across the country for three weeks in an RV filming a movie about his journey back to Pennsylvania for Groundhog's Day. I lived out of WalMart parking lots, lost ten pounds (not by choice), saw places like Death Valley and was stopped by the U.S./Mexico border control while traveling back from Tijuana. But it was an incredible experience.”
