“Period Panties” Are a Thing and They Seem Sort of Amazing
How to get away with going tampon-free
Lady products have come a long way over the years, from Kotex belts to hipster tampons. So, without further ado, allow us to introduce you to period-proof panties.
Yep. Here’s the deal.
WTF are “period panties”? Pretty much what you think they are: underpants that (when worn during your time of the month) absorb liquid completely. Basically a sexy, top-secret diaper.
How do they work? The brand Thinx designed a high-tech, patented lining to soak up the necessities. A breathable top layer wicks away moisture and keeps you dry. A leak-resistant bottom layer forms a force field and keeps your clothes dry. And an antimicrobial layer somewhere in the middle banishes bacteria.
And they’re cute? Honestly? They look just like regular underwear (flirty lace trim and all). Thinx sells three different styles that come in both nude and black, ranging from $14 to $34. The thong is designed for light days, the cheeky for medium days and the hip-hugger for the heaviest of days.
So these will really work on, like, Day 3? Thinx says so. It claims the hip-hugger will hold up to two tampons’ worth of liquid. But you might want to first use a tampon as a backup, just to test it out. You’re encouraged to “know your flow.”
And then you just wash them? Yup. First, you gotta rinse out the blood (that’s a given), but then they can go right into your washing machine. Hang them to dry, and use them again (and again and again).
The verdict? Hey, we’re all about choices. And you better believe we’ll be buying a pair (or seven) and reporting back.
