5 Outdoor Workouts to Take Advantage of This Summer
A rooftop makes a great yoga studio
There’s just one problem with your gym: it has four walls and a roof. (Okay, five problems.) Summer days are precious and few, so we’re in favor of doing everything outside this season. And that includes mountain-climbers. Here are five alfresco workouts to get your heart pumping.
Exhale’s Rooftop Yoga Series
These are your new hump-day plans: Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m., Exhale is taking over the rooftop at the Rafaello Hotel for 60-minute yoga classes. Following each class: happy hour at Drumbar. What’s detox, without a little retox?
Shred at the Park
Every Wednesday throughout the summer, the ladies of Shred415 will take to the rooftop of the Park Hyatt to lead calorie-torching workouts. The 45-minute classes kick off at 7:30 a.m. Scout’s honor: by 7:45 you’ll be drenched in sweat.
Millennium Park Summer Workouts
Every Saturday morning, the sprawling park holds workout classes every hour, on the hour. (Each class lasts 45 minutes.) You’ll have your pick of Tai-Chi, yoga, Pilates, or Zumba, all taught by teachers from local gyms. But here’s the best part: all the classes are free.
Surfset at Hotel Palomar
It’s surfing hour somewhere. And on Thursday mornings at 7 a.m., that somewhere is the rooftop of the Hotel Palomar. Open to hotel guests and locals, the weekly Surfset class burns fat and builds muscle during a 60-minute circuit-training class. Afterwards, sip some fresh-pressed juices (they’re free!) from Sable Kitchen & Bar.
#SweatSummer16 Rooftop Workout Series
Let’s start with the good news. It’ll be 10:30 a.m. when Sweat’s 60-minute workout--held on the rooftop of Joy District each Saturday--wraps up. You know what that means: brunch time. The somewhat daunting news is that you’ll have to earn it with high-intensity interval training using resistance bands. Just think: eggs.
