Heads Up: You Can Now Fly from JFK to Europe for 99 Bucks

We’ve done a lot of things in the pursuit of cheap flights: signed up for every travel newsletter out there, taken the red-eye on New Year’s Eve, endured more eight-hour layovers than we’d care to admit. But inexpensive trans-Atlantic travel just got a little more accessible: The Icelandic low-cost carrier WOW Air is finally coming to JFK in 2018—and bringing its wallet-friendly fares with it.

The airline, which is known for its Reykjavík stopovers, launches service from JFK starting in April, with $99 destinations including Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen and Dublin. And while cheap NYC-to-Europe flights have always been out there for those with an eagle-eyed diligence for finding them, WOW Air’s arrival means consistently great deals—and we’re guessing its competitors will soon follow suit.

Before you get too excited, note that the fare is one-way, and the return flights are slightly more (anywhere from $150 to $250). As of today, we spotted round-trip flights as low as $288 total. It’s also worth noting any baggage—including carry-ons—comes with a fee, as do in-flight meals. And since all routes go through the airline’s hub in Reykjavík, you’ll have a layover, though we prefer to think of it as an opportunity for a bonus excursion to Iceland.

If you can get past the add-on costs, it’s still a steal by any measure (we’ve had weekends upstate where we spent that much on the car rental alone). And we’re more than willing to pack our own PB&J if it means we could be biking through Amsterdam—or gallery-hopping in Berlin or eating our way through Paris—that much quicker.
