5 Last-Minute Valentine’s Trips You Can Still Book Today
Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that creeps up on you sneakily, and before you know it, you have no gift, no dinner reservation and no chance of doing anything remotely romantic for your sweetie. Luckily, we rounded up five last-minute trips you can totally still book now for a lovely getaway come the 14th.
Most people don?t think about visiting Nantucket in the off-season, but this little island off the coast of Massachusetts stays ridiciously beautiful beyond beach season. Rent a quaint room on Airbnb, grab coffee and pastries at Petticoat Row Bakery and spend your days walking along the empty beaches and curling up by the fire. Hit up the beloved American Seasons for a date night meal.
Paso Robles, California
Booking a vacation in Napa or Sonoma takes some advance planning, but the under-the-radar wine region of Paso Robles, located north of San Luis Obispo on the Pacific Coast Highway, is perfect for a spur-of-the-moment getaway. The town itself is small and friendly, full of cute coffee shops, tasting rooms and restaurants serving California, local cuisine. Book a room at the Summerwood Inn and then hit the vineyards. As in Napa, Cabernet Sauvignon is the most prominent grape, but you’ll also find great Zinfandels and Merlots at vineyards like Adelaida, all at fairly reasonable prices.
Amelia Island, Florida
So you didn’t get your act together soon enough for that tropical Caribbean getaway. Book at room at the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island for an equally wonderful slice of paradise. Only 13 miles long, Amelia Island is home to powder-white sand, serene beaches and the colonial-style town of Fernandina Beach. Horseback riding on the shores, biking along the quiet streets and sailing on the Atlantic are just a few activities to try when you’re sick of sunbathing.
Whether you and your hubby are avid skiers or just like the après-ski cocktail scene, Aspen is for lovers. Book a stay at The St. Regis, hit up the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies for half-day snowshoeing excursions and a lunch at Pine Creek Cookhouse. And don’t forget to make a Valentine’s dinner reservation at Element 47 at the Little Nell (hello, 20,000 bottle wine cellar).
The Catskills, New York
The Catskills are home to cozy mountain towns with plenty of rustic charm. Stay at the newly opened Scribner’s Lodge in Hunter, where Alpine-style cabins give way to a modern, chic vibe. If you’re up for a half-day trip, the artsy town of Woodstock is worth your while, where you’ll find antique shops, independent bookstores, photography exhibits and galleries. And no visit to the Catskills is complete without a meal at Phoenicia Diner, a beloved farm-to-table establishment with a Brooklyn-hipster feel and to-die-for Bloody Marys.
