The One Trick for Taking Better iPhone Photos at Night

You’re out to dinner with your friend who you haven’t seen in years and want to snap a pic for posterity, but ugh, the restaurant lighting is way too dim. Here, a genius iPhone trick that will brighten things up sans flash.

What you do: Open up your iPhone’s camera and toggle over to video mode. When you’re ready to take the photo, hit record as if you’re filming a video. The second you do, you’ll see a white shutter button appear in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen. Tap it at the same time the video is recording to take a real (and brighter) pic.

Why this works: The HD picture quality found in video mode actually lets in more light than your phone’s regular camera. In fact, the second you toggle over to video mode, you’ll see your screen noticeably brighten up.

Good news. The lighting is perfect. Bad news: It will still take 13 attempts to get a pic you and your bestie both like.
