This Crazy App Knows When You’re in Danger and Contacts the Police
SafeTrek is protection in your pocket
Calling all women who have watched Silence of the Lambs one too many times: We’re guessing at some point you’ve had to brave your way down a dark street at night… and totally freaked the hell out.
Let us introduce you to SafeTrek, a new app ($3 a month) that’s basically like a virtual bodyguard.
Here’s how it works: The next time you find yourself in a potentially sketchy situation, just launch the SafeTrek app and hold your thumb down on the big “safe” button that comes up in the middle of the screen. Once you’re back home (with the dead bolts triple locked), take your finger off the button, type in your four-digit PIN and go on with your life.
But… if you do find yourself in real danger, release your thumb from the safe button without entering your key code, and the app will automatically call the police and use your phone's built-in GPS to track your exact location.
Yes, it’s a tiny bit paranoid. Yes, it may or may not be superior to finally taking that self-defense class. But hey, we’re all about innovations in the world of personal safety.
