The 7 Apps You Need to Start 2016 Off Right
Yep, this is going to be your best year ever
Guys. We’re not letting you do that thing this year.
You know, the thing where you make a bunch of way-too-ambitious New Year's resolutions, like you're only going to eat seaweed and become fluent in Italian and save $10,000 and run the New York City Marathon in under three hours. And then by the third week of January, you’re totally discouraged and throw the whole thing out the window.
This year, we’re setting you up to hit all of those goals and more (well, not the seaweed thing). Here are the seven apps you need to make it happen.
EAT HEALTHIER: GOODMEAL
New Yorkers have no shortage of ways to get healthy, homemade meals delivered to our door, but give this new app a spin in 2016. Nutritious meals like red kale and sweet potato rice bowls with barbecue chicken are created by a nutritionist and delivered to your door for $10 to $15 per plate.
LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE: DUOLINGO
Instead of checking Instagram and Snapchat when you’re in line at Whole Foods (ugh), fire up this amazing app, which helps you learn Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Irish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish or English with a series of fun games.
LOWER YOUR STRESS LEVEL: OMVANA
Whether you’re dipping your toe into the meditation pool or you’re a mindfulness pro, this app features a variety of guided meditations between 3 and 60 minutes. And welcome to the future: If you connect it with your Apple Watch, the app will recommend meditations based on your current stress level. How unbelievable is that?
LOSE WEIGHT: LOSE IT!
Ready to drop that 20 pounds of baked Brie weight you put on during the holidays? (Sorry about that, btw.) Track your diet and fitness goals with this incredible app that sets a weekly “calorie budget,” then monitors everything you eat and how much exercise you get to make sure you’re hitting your goals.
SAVE MONEY: MINT
Yeah, we blew a bunch of our savings on Christmas presents, too. Get back on track with Mint, a free app that syncs your savings, retirement and checking accounts with your credit cards to determine your spending patterns and help set a budget that works for you.
QUIT SMOKING: KWIT
This year, it’s time to up the ante and finally break this bad habit for good. For the super competitive, Kwit actually manages to make quitting smoking fun, allowing you to unlock levels and achievements like a game. When a craving hits, shake your phone and the app will display an uplifting quote to keep you motivated.
RUN FASTER: STRAVA
Finally signing up for the marathon? Trying to knock a few minutes off your 5K? Just want to start running, period? Strava is the best app for every type of runner. Track your runs with GPS, map out new routes, get all of your stats in one place and see how you stack up against your friends. We’re so ready to jog with you, Heidi and Brooklyn.
