Whether she's entertaining Target executives or catching up with a girlfriend, it's always at Cookshop, "a.k.a. my kitchen," Shechtman says. Her store, office and apartment (yes, three different locations) are all within a few blocks of each other on Tenth Avenue. Cookshop just so happens to be smack dab in the middle of them. And trust us: Everyone knows her name.
Contrary to the array of fancy spots around Chelsea, Shechtman prefers plain ol' deli coffee from the diner below her apartment. It's just the little boost she needs for her favorite, guilty-pleasure business task: cold-calling people to collaborate.
If you haven't guessed by now, a key to Shechtman's success is that she wastes no time. Therefore, at-home blowouts are her game. She uses the same stylist, Maggie, every time. "She gives the fastest and best blowouts in town. And, yes, people can DM me on Twitter [@RachelShechtman] and I'll share her number."
A big fan of Manhattan Theatre Club, Shechtman loved its recent production of Constellations with Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson (who was just nominated for a TONY for her role).

Shechtman claims that inspiration comes to her in the most sporadic ways. But when she does need to just step away and clear her head, a long walk up Hudson River Park usually does the trick.
Shechtman almost never takes off her hidden-message necklace from Beth Macri. They're handmade in New York City, and Shechtman's, naturally, spells "STORY."
Employing a strong-women theme this month, Shechtman couldn't not include her mother Sheila and the business she helms, Hebert Candies. "I wouldn't even be doing STORY if it wasn't for her."
There’s a teeny boutique in West Chelsea that does amazing things. It’s called STORY. It changes its concept every month and collaborates with some of the biggest companies in the country (from Target to Toms).
And its CEO, Rachel Shechtman, is our total girl crush.
Not only is she a recent honoree of Crain’s “40 under 40” list, but she also knows just about everyone in this damn town. (Her current “story” revolves around strong women leaders and features products curated by the likes of Martha Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg, Iris Apfel, Serena Williams, Sophia Amoruso and Hannah Bronfman.)
Naturally, we needed to pick her brain for nuggets of advice: Where does she power lunch? What does she put in her latte? And how can we also be friends with Serena?
