5 Dating Apps for Grown-ups
Because Mr. Wonderful isn’t looking for you on Tinder
There’s a lot of potential love out there. And a lot of new tech designed to find it. Here, six apps that will help you creatively meet someone based on more than just what meets the eye.
Hinge: This app sends you recommendations for dates based on friends of friends on Facebook. It lets you have a look at prospective dates, as well as their job and education. And it’s practically everywhere--since it launched in 2014, it has expanded to 38 cities.
How About We: Instead of focusing on the person you're meeting, take the pressure off by focusing on the activity. That’s the premise of this app, in which you post your favorite date ideas and then browse other people’s dream dates, too. Who knows, you might end up with a jogging partner for life.
Coffee Meets Bagel: Every day at noon, you’re sent a “bagel” (aka match), which is chosen for you based on friends, and friends of friends, on Facebook. The site was started by three sisters; we like the blog of fun date ideas, too.
Checkhimout: This one’s all on your terms, ladies. You can browse men’s profiles, then you can contact them on your own schedule, without having to wade through tons of emails, as so often happens when you newly join a site.
Align: This app matches potential mates based on your astrological sign. Every day, you’re given a fresh “constellation” of potential matches to choose from. For now, it’s only in L.A. (natch) but rolling out across the country.
